Chrysler common problems
The 300 and the Pacifica minivan — comfortable, with a few shared items to know.
Chrysler's modern lineup is small but popular — the 300 sedan and the Pacifica minivan. Both share engines and electronics with Dodge and RAM, so the known items are familiar, with the Pacifica adding minivan-specific electrical complexity.
Here's what we see on Chryslers.
Reliability: average — engine items shared with Dodge/RAM, plus minivan electronics.
Common Chrysler problems
The faults we actually see on Chrysler vehicles in the shop — what causes them, and why they matter.
3.6 Pentastar engine
The 3.6L Pentastar in the 300 and Pacifica can develop a rocker-arm/lifter tick and oil-cooler/filter-housing leaks over time — check on higher-mileage examples.
Hemi (300 V8)
On Hemi-equipped 300s, the cylinder-deactivation (MDS) versions can develop lifter/cam wear — a tick or misfire is the warning sign.
Pacifica electronics
The Pacifica's many power features, sliding doors and (on hybrids) added systems bring electrical and sensor quirks; proper diagnosis finds the real cause.
Suspension and brakes
Normal wear accelerated by Alberta roads and salt — routine to service.
When to get your Chrysler looked at
Catch these early and most are routine. Leave them, and they turn into the expensive repairs — so if you notice any of these, book a look.
Buying or owning a Chrysler
- On a Pentastar, watch for a top-end tick and oil-cooler/housing leaks.
- On a Hemi 300, treat a tick or misfire as a priority.
- On a Pacifica, expect some electrical/power-feature quirks as it ages.
- Get a used one inspected — engine and electronics are where surprises hide.
On repair costs
Chrysler running costs are reasonable thanks to shared, common parts. The budget items are the Pentastar's oil-cooler leaks (or Hemi lifter wear on a 300) and the Pacifica's electrical complexity - all cheaper to catch early.
What our winters and roads do to a Chrysler
The 300 and Pacifica handle Calgary fine, but the Pacifica's many power features and sliding doors are where cold-weather electrical gremlins tend to surface, and salt and cold drive the usual wear. The shared Pentastar and Hemi engine items apply regardless of climate.

Chrysler problems — FAQ
Is the Chrysler Pacifica reliable?
It's a well-regarded minivan to drive, but its many power features and (on hybrids) extra systems add electrical complexity, and the 3.6 Pentastar has its usual items. A pre-purchase inspection is worthwhile on a used one.
Does the Chrysler 300 share parts with Dodge?
Yes — the 300 shares its platform and engines with the Dodge Charger, so the same Hemi and Pentastar items apply. That also means parts and expertise are widely available.
What should I check on a used Chrysler?
The engine (Pentastar tick and oil-cooler leaks, or Hemi lifter wear), the electronics, and normal wear. We can inspect it and flag anything due before you buy.
